About imgnovo

ImgNovo is a small, independent project. A browser-based image compressor is the whole of what we do here: it compresses JPG, PNG and WebP images, converts between those formats and downloads the results as a zip, all without uploading them. There is no account to create, no email to hand over, and no paywall hiding behind the third advert.

Why we built this

Plenty of everyday-utility pages already exist. Most of them make you dismiss a banner, ignore a modal and scroll past filler before the tool appears. ImgNovo inverts that: the tool is the page, it compresses JPG, PNG and WebP images, converts between those formats and downloads the results as a zip, all without uploading them, and everything else is explanation you can read or skip.

The method behind it

Everything runs on your own device. When you use the tool, it decodes each image in the browser, re-encodes it at the quality level you choose and reports the size before and after, so the compression runs on your own machine and the file never leaves it. Nothing about the method is hidden: if you want to check a result by hand, the description above is the algorithm the page actually uses, and every figure you see comes from it rather than from a black box.

Your data stays here

Nothing you enter is transmitted. The images you drag in is handled by the page on your own machine, which is why ImgNovo has no server-side copy to lose, leak or hand over — and why it still works once you go offline.

Who it is for

Keeping it free

ImgNovo is free to use and supported by advertising. Adverts are kept off the working part of the page, and no advertiser receives anything you type. If a page ever becomes slow or intrusive, that is a bug worth reporting.

Reaching us

If something is wrong, or if there is a feature you would find useful, the contact page is the way to reach us. Messages from people who use the browser-based image compressor shape what gets built next.
